Rooted reprise crop.jpg

Originally from Leicestershire, I've lived in such far apart places as the Highlands of Scotland and the southernmost tip of Cornwall but I've spent most of my life in North Wales and I currently live on Anglesey. An unexpected diagnosis of serious illness in 2015 prompted me to return to art as a form of therapy, after a prolonged break during which I had pursued a different kind of creative career as a singer/songrwiter. This revived interest in art quickly proved to be more than just a coping mechanism. From early beginnings in wildlife portraiture my art journey has transported me to a place where I can finally express myself freely and invest more of my own emotions in my painting. Art has proved to be the vital key to my mental well being as I navigate a life constrained by painful illness.

My art is driven by a lifelong passion for the natural environment. I draw inspiration from the wild places, and I have a predilection for landscapes untainted by human interference.  My hope is that through my paintings others will be able to experience some of the primal emotions I experience when immersed in nature, where I feel at one with myself and my environment. Though I occasionally dabble in other media, I've found that the natural unpredictability and sheer wilfulness of watercolour is perfectly suited to my preferred subject matter.
